Robert Burks served as Principal Oboe for the Chattanooga Symphony & Opera for 38 seasons. He served as a CSOYO Coach for many seasons and taught many young oboe players in the Chattanooga area. Following his untimely death in 2019, his wife, Teresa, along with other funders, created the Bob Burks Memorial Scholarship to recognize and support outstanding oboe players in the CSOYO. One recipient is chosen each season to receive a full tuition scholarship. This scholarship is open to all oboe players selected for membership in the CSOYO during the current season.
